She was the daughter of Samuel and Abigail (Carey) Howland, granddaughter of Jabez Howland, and great-grandaughter of John Howland, the Pilgrim. She married, September 26, 1742, in Bristol, MA (now RI), William Wardwell, the son of Benjamin and Mary Wardwell.
