John G. Bell, 69, died at 11:15 o'clock yesterday morning at the residence, 1011 North Fifth street following nine years of ill health.
Mr. Bell was born and reared in Tallula where he was a prominent business mand and active in civic affairs.
He was engaged in farming on a large scale for many years.
In 1924 when his health began to fail, Mr. Bell retired and moved his residence to Springfield.
He was the son of Henry and Nancy Ann Bell, early settlers in Menard county.
Surviving are his wife, Josephine W. Bell; two brothers, Charles H. Bell, of Rochester; and Robert C. Bell, of Kansas City, Kans.; two nieces, Mrs. Marie Burgess and Mrs. Frank Parks, of Burley, Idaho; and a nephew, Fred Bell, of California.
The remains were taken to Ellinger and Kunz funeral home and were removed to the residence where funeral services were held.
Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery.
