John Wesley Dodson was a carpenter and worked in Greene and Webster CO. The family lived in Springfield, but when he retired they came to Webster CO where their daughters lived. The son-in-laws built a little house on Jesse and Elva Reese's farm for them where they spent their remaining days.
Marshfield Mail, Thursday January 2, 1936 Funeral Services for John Wesley Dodson, 81, were held at Prospect Church at 2:00 Wednesday afternoon with the Re. D.S. Jones officiating. Burial was made in Prospect Cemetery under the direction of Rainey Funeral Home. Mr. Dodson died at his home near Prospect at 2:30 AM Tuesday, following a paralytic stroke Sunday which left him helpless. he was born June 30, 1854, in TN. He came to Webster CO as a child and spent the remainder of his life here, except for fifteen years spent in Springfield where he followed the carpentry trade. He was a member of the Christian Church at High Point, having been converted and joined that church about 1888. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Cantrell Dodson, whom he married in December, 1880, four sons: William A. of Niangua, Charles, Edward and Arthur, all of Springfield, three daughter, Mrs. Dora C. Weaver, Mrs. Emma Garner and Mrs. Elvie Reese; one brother, William Dodson, and one sister, Mrs. Minda Greenlee, both of Springfield; 32 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, and a large number of relatives and friends.
Prospect Pointers John Dodson suffered a stroke of paralysis Sunday about noon. He was stricken unconscious and has not regained consciousness at this report, Monday morning. His sons, Charley and Arthur Dodson, both of Springfield, and his daughters, Mrs. Dora Weaver and Mrs. Emma Garner are with him. His condition if considered critical.
