John H. Hartley
Mr. Hartley, 79, of Charlotte, died Saturday, July 30, 2005 at his residence. He was born October 26, 1925 in Newton, MA and was the son of the late Lois Cornwell and Harry B. Hartley.
He was a veteran of WW II having served in the U. S. Coast Guard as well as the Korean War having served in the U. S. Air Force. He graduated from Wethersford High School and the General Motors Institute. He was a member of the Sphinx Temple and a member of the Oasis Temple of the Shrine where he also served as former Band Captain. He married the former Catherine Baird on March 25, 1961.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, August 4, 2005 from the graveside in Crestview Cemetery, LaCrosse, Va. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel.
Survivors include his wife Catherine, sons, John H. Hartley, Jr. of Charlotte; William A. Hartley of Orlando, FL; daughter, Lois E. Hartley of Durham, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Mr. Hartley was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth V. Hartley and a brother Harry C. Hartley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Pallative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 E. 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 or to Shriners Hospitals for Children c/o Oasis Shriners, 604 Doug Mayes Place, Charlotte, NC 28262.
