Christian was born in Geierswald, Prussia, now Saxony, Germany. Christian left the port of Bremen Germany and came to the U.S.A. on the ship Hermann, arriving May 7, 1883. He married Sophia Annie Nauert on October 21, 1898 in Travis County, Texas. Christian was building a house in Albany,Shackleford County, Texas, for the Ernst Bernstein family, when he fell from the wagon he was hauling lumber with. The wheel ran over his leg below the knee and crushed it so badly that amputation was necessary. His death certificate lists cause of death as shock trama, contributing factor, fracture of leg. His residence was listed 7 miles north of Albany. He was a well respected man in the community. He wrote articles for the "Giddings Deutsches Volksblatt".
