Maravene Ann (Stokes) Clay

Maravene Ann (Stokes) Clay 97 of Palm Coast died August 30, 2013 of Natural Causes.

Maravene was born on August 1, 1916 in Longmont, CO a daughter of the late James and Eva Stokes.

Preceding her in death was her Husband, Lloyd; Son, Kenneth Clay; Brother, Earl Stokes; and Sisters, Gladys and Marie.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol Slocum and Sue Pederson; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Maravene was married to Lloyd (Spud) Clay for 70 years. In 1939, they moved from Colorado to Washington D.C. While Lloyd worked on his career in the Coast Guard and Federal Service, Maravene worked as an accountant after they raised their children. They retired to Palm Coast in 1972. They were the 100th family to settle in Palm Coast. Their retirement was enjoyed golfing with their friends, traveling to visit their grandchildren, and spending the summers in their motor home traveling back to their roots in Colorado.

Maravene was a charter member of St. Mark's by the Sea Lutheran Church in Palm Coast. Her many life hobbies and activities included bridge, quilting, golfing and traveling, having been all over the United States including Alaska and Hawaii as well as much of Europe. She also served as an election official for her voting district in Palm Coast for many years. Highlighting Maravene's many special gifts were her warm hearted, welcoming spirit and generosity that was ever present and obvious to all who knew her and met her. Her talents in the kitchen were well known as many have enjoyed her savory meals at her home and numerous church dinners. I

n lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Women's Group of St. Mark's Lutheran Church 303 Palm Coast Parkway NE, Palm Coast FL 32137. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 6 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road S. Flagler Beach. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday September 7 at 11:00 AM in St. Mark's by-the-Sea Lutheran Church 303 Palm Coast Parkway NE.
