MONTICELLO — Ethel L. Downey, 83, 418 S. Bluff St., died at 1:45 a.m. today in Monticello Health Care Center. She had been ill six years.

She was born Jan. 26, 1901, in Idaville to Fred and Clara Shock McCully. She was married Aug. 18, 1923, to Ray Baer, who died Aug. 8, 1938. She was married Jan. 6, 1954, to Ray Downey, who died March 18,1957.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Monticello, where she attended Sunday school. She also attended Idaville Church of God and churches in Pike Creek and Buffalo. She was a past president of the Friendly Neighbors Club, and worked at Bryan Manufacturing, Oak Lawn School and the Barr Store, Monticello.

Surviving are five daughters, Marie Lindstrand, Tavares, Fla., Clara Godlove, Jean Bridge, Dorothy Lantz, and Peggy Funk, all of Monticello; three sisters, Kate Timmons, Monticello, Marie White, Tipton, and June Yoder, Marion, Ohio; a brother, Ben McCully, Trinity, Texas; five stepdaughters, Kathlyn Amey, Hebron; Margaret Peterson, Chesterton, Eleanor Deckard, Portage, Arlys Bowers, Knox, and Joyce Tribbett, Buffalo; a stepson, Homer Downey, Monticello; 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and
several step-granchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Two
brothers and a sister preceded in death.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Miller-Voorhis Funeral Home, with the Revs. Alvin Rockey and Don Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
