Dixie Davis, age 69 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.

She was born May 28, 1944 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Archie and Aline(Large)Chapman. Dixie married John Ned Davis on February 14, 1960 in Centerville. They later divorced.

Dixie began her working career as a certified nurse's aide. She worked as a CNA for both the Corydon Nursing Home and the Seymour Care Center. Dixie then changed careers and became employed with Neely Manufacturing in Seymour, Iowa. She was employed with the company for eight years until she relocated to Centerville and began working for Viskase. Dixie worked for Viskase for fourteen years, retiring at the age of sixty three.

She was active in her free time. Dixie enjoyed fishing, camping, cookouts with family, reading romance novels, playing cards, and watching western movies-especially John Wayne movies. Most importantly, Dixie loved spending time with her family. Family members describe Dixie as being a selfless person who always puts others ahead of herself. She enjoyed time spent volunteering at Angel's Hands in Centerville.

Dixie is survived by her three children, Bill(Laurie)Davis, Kathy Davis, and Cindy Davis all of Centerville, Iowa; five grandchildren, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Davis, Timothy(Jaimie)Davis, Caitlin Utterback, Kairee Davis, and Nikki Davis all of Centerville, Iowa; one great grandchild on the way; two brothers, Robert(Becky)Chapman and Lyile Chapman all of Centerville, Iowa; and two sisters, Barb(Willard)Armstrong of Centerville, Iowa and Judy Garcia of Clifton, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; daughter Jennifer Lynn Davis; brother Jerry Chapman; and numerous other family members.


Funeral services will be held 2 pm Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Larry Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in the Confidence Cemetery. A visitation will be held Saturday at Lange funeral Home from 1-2 pm. Memorials have been established to the family.
