He was a graduate of Menard High School. He had been an employee of the US Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service for the past thirty-four years and was the Executive Director of the ASCS for Rapides Parish at the time of his death.
He was a member of Saint Frances Cabrini Church, the Holy Name Society, and of the Menard Athletic Association.
He is survived by his wife, Myrthlee Marie Mathews VanHoof; four daughters, Marilyn Joyner, Carol Michiels, Janet VanHoof, and Susan VanHoof; two sisters, Rosalie Mathews and Cecilia Vanderlick; and brothers, Joseph and Julian VanHoof.
