Martin, Pauline Agnes, Age 88, of Portage, Indiana, formerly of Washington Township, passed away Sunday morning at VNA Hospice, September first, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lyons, Nebraska on December 26, 1924, Pauline married Carl Benjamin Martin on May 14, 1944. Carl passed away in 2010, after 66 years of marriage. Pauline moved with her family from Nebraska to Indiana in 1958. Pauline was a member of the Kouts and Valpo Mennonite Churches for over 50 years, and in later years, attended Fairhaven Baptist Church in Chesterton. Pauline attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska and taught for one year in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Nebraska. Living in Washington Twp. for over 50 years, she was also a school bus driver for 32 years. She loved Jesus and her family, devoted her life to evangelism, and was a gracious hostess to many individuals and international groups. After accepting Jesus as the Lord of her life at age 33, she touched many in the community with her passion to share the Gospel. Pauline enjoyed following the activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. This included attending sports and school activities. She also traveled extensively on international missions trips, including 10 visits to India, China, Taiwan, Israel, Greece, Mexico (and even Alaska 3 weeks ago!).
She is survived by five children: Mike Martin (Diane) of Lake Station, Mary Hupp (David) of Mayetta, KS, Bob Martin (Jean) of Valparaiso, David Martin (Courtney) of Omaha, NE, and Christine Janzen (Les) of Lexington, SC; and preceded in death by son, Thomas. Pauline is also survived by one sister, Maxine Rogers of Vermillion, SD, along with 22 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 4th from 4-8 PM at the Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 5th at 11:30 AM at the Hopewell Mennonite Church, 805 N. Main St, Kouts with burial to follow at Hopewell Mennonite Cemetery, Kouts. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, can be made to Laymen Evangelical Fellowship, the Valparaiso Mennonite Church or Fairhaven Missions. Checks can be sent to The Pauline Martin Memorial fund, c/o David Hupp, 17009 S Road, Mayetta, KS 66509. moellerfuneralhome.com
