George B. Foster, 72, Dies Friday
DAYTON, Feb. 8 - George Blashel Foster, 72, former chairman of the county Democratic Central committee and one-time candidate for state senator, died at his home near Dayton in the Pleasantdale district Friday.
Mr. Foster was a native of Illinois, born in West Salem, July 3, 1867. He had made his home in the Pleasantdale district for the past 54 years, moving there in 1886. For many years he was road superintendent and made good roads his hobby. He was chairman of the county Democratic organization from 1934 to 1936. He was also a director of school district 64, Pleasantdale, for several years.
Good Roads Hobby
Mr. Foster was very instrumental in the construction and improvement of the new Salem road.
He is survived by one brother, W.E.Foster of Dayton. A son, Conrad, died 16 years ago.
Mr. Foster, together with his nephew, Kenneth Addison, and Mrs. Ruby Strasser, was returning home from Newberg after attending the theatre there, when he complained of being very tired. He suddenly crumpled down in the car, and was pronounced dead when they reached Newberg hospital. Heart failure was given as cause of death. Mr. Foster had suffered a fractured hip in an automobile accident three years ago, and had been in failing health until the past few months.
He married Annie L. Addison in 1892, and several years later moved to the farm on which he spent the rest of his life. Mrs. Foster died in 1938.
Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Macy's Chapel, with burial in Evergreen Memorial Park. Dr. Victor P. Morris, of Eugene, nephew of Mr. Foster, officiated at services.
