Matthew M. Carr, 87, died peacefully Sunday, September 1, 2013 at his home in Columbus, OH.

He was born February 23, 1926 in Columbus, OH to Ben and Grace Carr who preceded him in death.

On September 10, 1969 he married Mary Jane Carr who remained his lifelong companion and survives in Columbus, OH.

Matt was an avid fisherman and well known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He graduated from North High School in 1944 and attended Franklin University.

He was a retired Columbus Police and Firefighter.

He was a United States Marine veteran of WWII serving with troops landing on Okinawa, Easter Sunday 1945. Matt was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.

He was a sales representative for Zippo manufacturing for over 40 years and also worked for J. M. Smucker and L.B. Martin...

Matt was preceded in death by infant daughter Charma, four year old son Marc, their mother Charlotte Ann, and granddaughter Lauren Ann Musser. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Ed, Hudson, Tom, Zane, Don, Richard and sisters Julia and Opal.

Family will receive friends Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd. where a funeral service will be held Friday at 10 AM with Rev. Bruce Harrison officiating.

Graveside service will follow at 2 PM at Letart Twp. Cemetery, Letart Falls, OH.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Nationwide Children's Hospital or The Salvation Army.
