Walt Shields - beloved husband, father and grandfather - peacefully departed this life Tuesday, March 1, 2005, in Lubbock, at the age of 82 years.

He was born July 1, 1923 in Hailleyville, Okla. to the late W. Shields and Mae B. Armstrong Shields. Walt attended Meadow schools. He married Christine Nesbitt Aug. 15, 1947 in Morton. He moved to Lubbock from Levelland in 1955. Christine preceded him in death June 29, 1985. Walt then married Ann Miller June 20, 1987 in Lubbock. He was a serviceman for Townsend & Strong, Inc. for 38 years before retiring in 1986. Walt was a member of the Idalou Methodist Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent for a number of years. He later became a member of the Indiana Ave. Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Air Force and WWII. Walt was also preceded in death by a brother, William Shields.

Those left to mourn his passing include wife, Ann McInroe Shields of Idalou; three sons, Bill Shields and wife Sheryl of Idalou, Steve Shields and wife Paula of Morton, and Wesley Shields and wife Nicole of Lubbock; two daughters, Marilyn Webster and husband Bobby of Gatlinburg, Tenn. and Cynthia Shields of Levelland; stepson, Jerry Miller and wife Arlene of Hart; three stepdaughters, Jana Brooke and husband Marvin of Allen, Judy Teague and husband Ken of Orange Co., Calif. and Jill Lopez and husband Rick of Simi Valley, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
