James died at the age of 81, he had been in ill health for a number of years, totally bedridden near the end. He is the son of Charity (Fowler) Rainwater and James Rainwater Sr. He married twice. His first wife was Delilah Kifer who he wed on Sept. 10th, 1832 in Knox County, Tennessee. His second wife was Julia Jane Sanderson whom he married on Sept. 9th, 1851 in Fayettesville, Arkansas in Washington County. He fathered 8 children between the two wives. James had lived in Prairie Township in Arkansas, Washington County around 1850. In 1869 he moved to Missouri with son Jacob. Eventually moving on to Washington State, where he settled in Dayton. The 6 kids from his first wife were: John Kifer, Jacob Cessum, Ashly Wynn, Martha Susannah, Presley R., and James the III., who died in 1850. From his second marriage he had two kids, James Donald and William Finas. The second marriage ended in divorce.
