William Farmer Letson, 92, died at his residence in Nashville, TN on Wednesday, May 11, 2011.

Mr. Letson was born in Grantville, Coweta County, GA, the youngest of 8 children born to Farmer Hinton and Eva Leona (Johnson) Letson.

Raised in Norcross, GA, he developed an interest in music and piano that lasted a lifetime. With support from his sister Leona and her husband Frank Wiley, he earned a degree in architecture at Georgia Tech.

Mr. Letson served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a B-17 navigator on the "Bolder Buf." He flew 35 missions over Europe, including 2 during D-Day. He earned an Air Medal with one cluster, and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Following the war, Mr. Letson began his career as an architect in Atlanta, GA. He designed and supervised construction of Springdale Mall in Mobile, AL in 1961. Subsequently, he relocated his family to Mobile and joined two other architects to start their own firm. He later joined with four architects to form TAG/The Architects Group, retiring as president of the firm.

During retirement, Mr. Letson pursued his passion for art and painted in his studio before moving with his wife to Nashville, TN to be near their son and daughter-in-law.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Broadwell); son, Bren W. Letson (Jane) of Nashville, TN, and son, W. Neil Letson (Cheryl) of Montgomery, AL.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Heifer International or the Alzheimer's Association.
