"Mr. Water Valley," C. L. Haskell, Dies
Water Valley, Ky., Dec 31 - Charles L Haskell, former mayor of Water Valley, sometimes known as "Mr. Water Valley", died at 9:06 pm at Fulton Hospital.
Death followed a long illness. Mr. Haskell was 63 years old.
Until he retired two years ago, Mr. Haskell was the owner of the oldest business establishment in the community, Haskell's General Store. He took over the store from his father-in-law, Ben P Bennett, many years ago and operated the store until his retirement.
Interested in all civic affairs of the community, especially the Water Valley School, he was a part of practically all important movements of the town.
A native of Kirksey, he lived in Water Valley most all of his life. He was a member of Water Valley Masonic Lodge 756 and the Water Valley Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sarah Bennett Haskell; a daughter, Mrs. Doyce Clark of Water Valley; two sisters, Miss Edith Haskell of Mayfield, and Mrs. Amy Gordon of El Monte, Calif.; a brother, Horace Haskell of Bruceton, Tenn., and a grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Water Valley Methodist Church, the Rev. D. F. Wheatley officiating. Burial will be in Water Valley Cemetery.
The body is at the Whitnel Funeral Home in Fulton. It will be taken to the church at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
