Obituary for Mrs. August Ost from The Montevideo News, 1 Feb 1924
Mrs. August Ost died at 11 o'clock Monday night at her home on North Sixth Street at the age of 76 years and 9 months. She was born in Germany and came to America when about 19 years old, going to Owatonna, where she lived with her sister, Mrs. Kriesel. In September, 1869, she was married to August Ost at Owatonna. Three years later Mr. and Mrs. Ost moved to Chippewa County and took up a homestead one mile east of town. Eighteen years ago they moved to Montevideo. The old home farm is being occupied by their son, Herman.
Mrs. Ost is survived by five sons: Julius, who is a mail carrier on route 2; Fred, Adolph, Herman and August, who are farming east of town. Mr. Ost died 2 years ago. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Gust Hein of Elgin, Minnesota, and Mrs. Zelmer of Germany.
Funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon at 1 o'clock from Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. H. O. Lee officiated and interment was made in the Montevideo cemetery. Among the out of town people attending the funeral were Mrs. Albert Johnson and daughter of Minneapolis and Mr. and Mrs. Gust Bazer of Owatonna.

Note: From Bernelda (Ost) Roberts, a granddaughter
It should have read "Mr. and Mrs. Gust Panzer of Owatonna." Mrs. Panzer was an Ost before her marriage. Also, Julius was a farmer east of town as well as a mail carrier. August Ost purchased his farm, rather than homesteaded it, as the information on the following page will show. August and Minna Ost did, however, live on the Manthey farm in a sod shanty when they first moved to Chippewa County.
