The funeral and burial will be in the spring in Flaxton for Lee
Leander Dellage, 101, Long Lake, MN. formerly of the Lignite and
Flaxton area, who died January 15th in Long Lake Nursing Home.
He was born February 2, 1886, in Douglas, Iowa. He came to North Dakota and settled on a farm two miles northeast of Lignite. In 1907 he became the first rural mail carrier out of Lignite. He also farmed, was a stock buyer, and in the late 1920s and early 1930s, owned and managed the Cuban Pirates, a semi-pro baseball team based in Lignite which toured throughout the Midwest and Canada. He moved to the nursing home about 15 years ago.
Three wives, Mae Loveland, Mildred Hoffman and Jean Morris, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughters, Arliene Woodward, LaGuna Hills, CA, Ellen Jacobson, Eugene, OR, Dorthea Root, El Dorado Hills, CA; son, Wilmar, The Dalles, OR; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
