:BUT I am not sure, there are tons of Finney's and the wife is not the same....

The Registry at the Parish of Lenton has his baptism as:"15 March 1603/4 Johannes filius Roberti Finnye." along with 4 other children to Robert Finnye" including one baptism: "20 July 1637 Margarita filia Johanni Phiny."

died 92 years old. 311 years ago. the stone or wood cross maybe gone. But he is last known to live and died in the Barnstable MA area. He was born in England, met and married his wife Christian 22 Nov 1636 the record is in the Parish at Lenton. and they had 1 daughter before they sailed for America, 1637-Margaret. The next child born was John on Christmas Day 1638 in Plymouth MA. His 1st wife Christian died in Plymouth, MA. on 9 September 1649. He married 3 times.
1) Christian who is said to have passed in 1649
2) second wife's name was Abigail Bishop. He married her 10 Jun 1650 in Barnstable, Plymouth Colony. She was born in 1615 and died 1653 Citations: Clifford L Stott, "The Finney Family of Lenton, Nottinghamshire and Plymouth, Massachusetts", 148, 315. It may be that his son John Phinney JR is also in this cemetery. He also died in Barnstable Mass.

According to the book THE FINNEY FAMILY OF LENTON, NOTTINGHAMSHIRE AND PLYMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS by Cliford L Stott. they had a John Jr born Christmas eve 1638 in Plymouth Ma.

WE HAVE DECIDED THIS IS NOT THE MARGAET FINNEY THAT MARRIED JOHN TAYLOR AND CAME TO AMERICA WITH husband and 4 kids. Arthur Taylor being one of them.

--------------
SUGGESTED EDIT: removes the middle name. There is no contemporary evidence that John used a middle name; it's probably a conflation with a different John Phinney/Finney.

His surname seems to have been spelled "Finney" more often than "Phinney" but both were used in documents referring to him. The date of death is probably too late as well, as the last documented evidence for him is the deeding of land to a son in 1682/3. And early article in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register gives the 1702 date, but more recent researchers have been unable to find corroboration.

I'm not actively suggesting changing the date, but I'm not actually suggesting not doing it either!

But the Edmond thing is just plain wrong.

Thanks!
