Sophia Rath married Joseph Fisher, a blacksmith, and they resided on the Rath farm near Gettysburg for about 15 years. Sophia witnessed part of the Battle of Gettysburg from her home. Joseph, a Civil War veteran, died around 1870. Sophia eventually moved to Altoona with her only child, John Hammond Fisher. Her obituary states she died at midnight, and is buried at Rose Hill.
