Max Evans Goodart
October 19, 1931 - August 31, 2013

U.S. Veteran
Max Evans Goodart went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 31, 2013. Born to Hallie and Almeda Evans Goodart on October 19, 1931. Max grew up in Joplin Missouri, and married Joan Thomas Goodart, also of Joplin, on January 6, 1950. Together they raised three sons, sharing a rich and full married life for 63 years.

Max served in the Navy Seabees during the Korean conflict and upon completion of his service, became a successful entrepreneur as owner of a motel, a marina, a plumbing supply company, a moving and storage facility, and a real estate investor. His business expertise, gentle nature and good sense of humor garnished a successful and multi-faceted career and living for his family.

His many talents combined easily with those of like faith, and he became most instrumental in the construction of the present meeting house for the Hemphill church of Christ. Here, his guidance, wisdom, concern, and caring nature provided a Christ-like example for members within the congregation, as well as among his neighbors and friends in this community. Loved and respected by all, Max was forthright in his beliefs, humbly and faithfully living each day by biblical instruction. He had always enjoyed the songs of the church, taking leadership in teaching the rudiments of a cappella singing and directing congregational singing for over 50 years.

Max is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan, who has lovingly yielded her attention and support, not only to his business endeavors, but to his care and comfort. He is preceded in death by their first son, Michael Stanley Goodart, whose passing in 1980 left behind his wife Jan and son Michael Stanley Goodart, Jr., both from Springfield, Missouri. Max is also survived by his sons; Bradley Evans Goodart and his wife Carol and grandson Adam, Tracy Andrew Goodart and his wife Debra and grandchildren Nicole Palacio, Brooke Goodart and Matthew Goodart all of Lufkin, Texas. Max also leaves behind great grandchildren Natalia and Max, as well as several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Goodart, Paul Boone, Jimmie Brown, Jimmy Clark, David Cline, Perry Lamb, and Bill McCall. Officiating will be Ray Wells of Jasper, Texas.

Visitation will be from 6:00PM until 8:00PM, Monday, September 2, 2013, in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:00AM, Tuesday, September 3, 2013, in the Hemphill Church of Christ, Hemphill, Texas. Interment will follow in the Hemphill Cemetery.
