George Ferdinand Alsbrooks Sr., 91, husband of 72 years to Carrie Lee Burress Alsbrooks, was promoted to glory Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Manchester/Wedgefield, he was a son of the late David Wylie Alsbrooks and the late Susan Elizabeth McCall Alsbrooks. Mr. Alsbrooks was a charter member of Alice Drive Baptist Church. He was a member and former South Carolina grand chancellor of the Knights of Pythias. He was a member of the Sumter Kiwanis Club. He played on the first American Legion P-15 baseball team in 1929. He served in both the State National Guard and also in the National Guard and was a former commander of the Sumter Unit of the State National Guard. He was an avid fisherman.
