Allen Keith Bertola

Salt Lake City, Utah-Allen Keith Bertola, age 89, passed away near his Salt Lake Home on Sunday evening the 25th of August. He had spent the week in the companionship of his four children and he passed in the company of those that loved him.
Keith was born on the kitchen table of his home in Sunnyside, Utah, located near Price, Utah, on the 31st of January 1924, to his proud parents Max Bertola and Hanna Arnelda Watt.
Keith graduated from Carbon County High and later completed most of his Bachelor's Degree in mathematics from the University of Utah. He honorably served our country in World War II in the military police and worked to set up the facilities for prisoners being tried on war crimes at the conclusion of the war.
Upon returning home from the service, he worked his life providing for his family at Keith's Appliance and Hardware. He was the Keith.
He was married to Norma Jean Jones for 64 years and during this time enjoyed raising their 4 children, (Harold, Karren, Max, and Mike) and their 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Belva and survived by all his family including Jean, his wife.
Although Salt Lake is where their home was, they spent most of their time enjoying their cabin on the Upper Weber in Aspen Acres.
Jean, his wife, always said he could never take a bad picture because he always had a great smile. Everyone knew him by this smile that expressed his personality - always glad to see you. We all got to know Keith better after his surgery in 2000, when he lost his ability to balance and walk on his own. From that point on, his caring and faithful wife Jean and his family stepped in to make life comfortable for him. Jean, his wife, said it was in repayment for all the years he had provided for all of us. "We never went without and he always gave more than was expected" is how Jean remembers her life with him.
He has left a whole in all of our lives that will not be filled but only remembered. We are thankful for the example he set of how to live life to its fullest. Keith, may your small Buddha statue continue to watch over your peaceful sleep.
Keith's graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, the 29th of August at Wasatch Lawn, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends and family are gathering there at 1;30 to remember the great times we had with him.
