James Christopher Berk, 72, of Lowell, passed away Aug. 29, 2013, in Lowell. He was born July 30, 1941, in Coleman, the son of Vernell and Vesta (Walton) Berk.
James married Shirley Kehoe in 1974. She passed away in 2005. He then married Jacquelyn (Ambrose) Felty on Sept. 9, 2009. James retired from The Dow Chemical Co. and later worked for Lowell High School as a security guard. He was a faithful Christian and attended Good Shepherd Church in Lowell. James was a member of the NRA, Qua-Ke-Zik Gun Range and was an avid hunter. He loved his John Deere tractor.
James is survived by his loving wife, Jacquelyn Berk of Lowell; children, Kevin Berk of Farwell, Calvin (Michelle) Berk of Lupton and Kimberly; stepchildren, Brian (Tina) Kehoe of Utah, Pat Kehoe of Lowell, Joseph (Karen) Felty of Rockford, Jason (Shawna) Felty of Hudsonville, and Jill (Rodney) Bloom of Comstock Park; sister, Faye (Ray) Berk-Pyle of Alabama; grandchildren, Amber, Kalley, Cody, Brittany, Christopher, Josh, Stephanie, Annette, Miranda, Chandler, Carter, Ethan, Makayla, Evelyn, Julianna, Kenneth, Ross, Lydia and Nathan; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his late wife, Shirley Berk; parents, Vernell and Vesta Berk; stepson, John Felty Jr.; and granddaughter, Jessica.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2013, 2 p.m., at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lowell, with Pastor Joseph Fremer officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday at 12 p.m. until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James' name to the Flat River Outreach Ministries.
