Born in Butler, Oklahoma in 1915, Blodwen moved as an infant to Mountain Home, Idaho where her father was employed as the town doctor. Blodwen attended schools in the Mountain Home area and graduated from Albertson's College of Idaho with teaching credentials and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin.

During World War II, she served two years in the Women's Army Corps. While in the service, she served at the Pentagon and retired as a sergeant in 1946.

In 1951, Blodwen married Glen Clayton Porter in Bountiful, Utah. Soon after the wedding, the couple moved to Spokane, WA. Here, three daughters were born to them, adding to Glen's family of one daughter and two sons. Glen and Blodwen moved the family to the Bay Area in 1957.

Blodwen began teaching piano lessons, become an active bluebird leader, and taught craft-flower making. The family settled in Petaluma in 1964 where Blodwen became the first woman hired at the Petaluma Post Office. Here she accrued a retirement as a postal clerk.
