Carrie Elizabeth Evans, daughter of Robert and Isabelle Evans, was born March 3, 1857 at Wilmington, Ill. When she was a young girl, she came to Iowa with her parents. The family located on a farm near Stratford and she received her education in the schools of that community. She taught in the schools here for several years.
She was united in marriage, October, 1879, to Claude Deo, and the couple resided at Stratford where Mr. Deo was postmaster. Following his death in Stratford in 1889, Mrs. Deo finished out her husband's term as postmaster and she herself served as postmaster for an additional term.
In 1893 she moved to Webster City to make her home. She resided there until 1902, moving then to Cedar Falls. In 1909, She moved to Chicago, Ill. to make her home with her daughter, Miss Zoe Deo. She made her home there until returning to Webster City in November last year and lived with her daughter, Mrs. Frankie Bauman.
She is survived only by two daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, five sisters and six brothers. She was a sister to the late Aunt Molly Evans, who died in November, 1948.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Foster funeral home at Webster City and it was a Scientist service. Interment was made in the Graceland cemetery of that city.
Mrs. Deo was keenly interested in community affairs and active in community work as long as her health permitted. A friendly, neighborly lady, she will be missed, not only by her immediate family, but by her many friends.
