Floyd DeLin Ahlstrom peacefully returned to his Father in Heaven after succumbing to causes incident to age on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the home of his daughter in Kanosh, Utah.
He was born August 13, 1930 in Panguitch, Utah to William Floyd Ahlstrom and Zella Beckstrom Ahlstrom.
He liked to tell the story of how his father trapped 7 coyotes and paid the doctor with skins for his delivery.
He was raised in Tropic, Utah until the age of 6 when his family moved to Englewood, California in search for better employment during the Depression years.
While serving in the US Navy he met and soon married his sweetheart Sharon Louise Layton on April 19, 1952 in Oakland, California. Their marriage was later solemnized on April 18, 1992 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
They lived and raised their two daughters in California until 1974 when employment moved them to Bountiful, Utah. After retirement they settled in Kanosh. Floyd, known as Skip to all his friends, loved to golf, go camping, fi shing, hunting and boating. But mostly, he loved the sea air. He had fond memories as a teenager of being paid by tourists to dive from the Hermosa Beach Pier and from the ship that sailed to Catalina Island in search of abalone shells.
In high school, he and his friends formed the Campus Cats Band and played regularly at the Lighthouse Café located on the Hermosa Beach boardwalk. He played the bass fiddle as part of the band.
His first job, at age 7, was as a Newsy, selling newspapers at the Hollywood Park Racetrack.
He graduated from Woodbury Business College, Los Angeles, CA in 1954, earning a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. He later certified as an Electrical Field Engineer and retired from the Square D Electric Company in 1992.
He served in the US Navy as a corpsman during the Korean Conflict from 1948-1952 and was honorably discharged. He served at the Navel Hospitals in San Diego, Long Beach and Oakland, CA and received the Good Conduct Medal.
He faithfully fulfilled many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His favorite being the 2-year mission he and his wife served in Cove Fort, Utah while living in Kanosh. Skip will be remembered mostly for his optimistic view of life, happy attitude and love of family.
He is survived by his daughters, Kimberley Louise Ahlstrom (Brigham City, UT) and Shonda Sue Robison (Kanosh, UT), 4 grandchildren, Landon Kelly Mays (Melissa) (Nibley, UT), Leslie Anne Mays Griffi n (Lance) (Brigham City, UT), Sara Ann Robison (Eagle Mountain, UT) and Shaun Paul Robison, (Odessa, TX), 3 great grandchildren, John Derk Springer, Jr., Kathleen Fayth Springer and Rebecca Rose Middleton (all of Eagle Mountain), and his sister-in-law Pam Ahlstrom (Rogue River, OR).
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Moana Burris, sister-in-law Merry Ahlstrom, brother William Keith Ahlstrom and sonin- law Paul Bert Robison.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the Kanosh Ward Building at 11am with a viewing just prior to, from 9:30am to 10:30am. Interment will be in the Kanosh Cemetery, under the direction of Olpin Stevens Funeral Home.
