Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Warren A. Bintz officiating.
Mrs. Raymond Majorowicz was the organist and accompanied Rev. Bintz as he sang “Sometime We'’ll Understand.” Mrs. Majorowicz also played an organ arrangement of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
Casket bearers were Lyonel Buffey, Robert Mather, Don Spencer, Elmer Lowman, Leonard Leslein, Harold Joens. Burial was in Rush Lake Cemetery near Curlew.
Vern Floyd Lyon, the son of Carl John and Anna L. Johnson Lyon, was born on Feb. 15, 1897, near Curlew, Iowa; and departed this life May 24, 1975, while a patient in the Pocahontas Community Hospital.
In his childhood he attended the rural schools in the Curlew and Rush Lake area. On May 26, 1937, he was married at Mallard to Miss Mary M. Clark of Lockridge, Iowa. To them was born a son, Vern John. The family made their home on farms around Mallard and in 1956 they moved to Laurens. Having retired in the early 1960’s, they came to Rolfe in 1968.
Vern was known for his friendliness. He found much pleasure in the out of doors and enjoyed the various pursuits nature provides. Mirth and harmless humor were very much a part of his life. He was a member of the Rolfe United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge in Laurens.
Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.
Among those who survive are his devoted wife, Mary, of Rolfe; a son, Vern John Lyon, of Ruthven; a sister, Mrs. Ida Grau, of Emmetsburg; three grandchildren, several nephews and nieces, and many, long cherished friends.
