Martha married James Taylor II on February 23, 1699 in Virginia. James II, the husband of Martha, was granted 13,000 acres of land in what became Orange County and he built Bloomsbury about 1722. He divided his vast holdings among his children. George received Midland (now Yatton), James III got Bloomsbury, Erasmus got Greenfield and Zachary got Meadowfarm.

The James Taylor I Association believes Martha died at and was buried on the Greenfield Plantation, the home of her son, Erasmus, but she does not have a grave marker there. According to Col. Francis (son of Col. George) in his diaries, his father wrote:

DEATH 4 NOV 1792 (SUNDAY) ~ Midland Plantation, Orange Co., VA

BURIAL INFORMATION ~ 6 Nov 1792 (Tues) George was "...deposited in the grave in the graveyard (behind Greenfield) between my grandmother's (Martha Thompson Taylor) and my mother's (Rachel Gibson Taylor) graves."

Source: "Colonel Francis Taylor Diary [manuscript] 1786-1792, 1794-1799 Taylor, Francis, 1747-1799, University of Virginia"

Note: there is no family cemetery at Midland, home of Col. George.

James and Martha had 9 children, 6 of which are linked to them on their memorials. The other 3 are:

Tabitha Taylor 1713-1794, who married Thomas Wilde in 1756

Hannah Taylor 1718-1762, who married Nicholas Batille/Battaile

Mildred Taylor 1724-1790, who married Richard Thomas in 1753
