On March 22, Mrs Julana Nevada Johnson Van Horn passed into the Great Beyond at the home of her daughter, Mrs Ray Bauer, in Covelo. Mrs Johnson (Van Horn) had been in very good health and spirits, and the night before had sat up visiting her children until quite late. Death came after Mrs Johnson had retired, and apparently, without pain she slipped quietly away.

Julana Nevada Johnson, daughter of Farmer Johnson, one of the earlier settlers of Covelo and vicinity, was born in Nevada April 10, 1865, and was 79 years, 1 month and 12 days old at the time of her passing. She was married to W E Van Horn September 7 1882 and six children came to them, three of whom are living; Mrs John Lambert of Willows, Eldria E Van Horn of Point Arena and Mrs Ray Bauer of Covelo. There are 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren who called her grandmother.

Funeral services were held at the Lovell Mortuary where relatives and friends gathered to pay their last respects to the dead lady, who passed so many years among them. Rev Verne Graham of the Assembly of God conucted the services and paid a very fine tribute to Mrs Johnson's memory and Godly mothrr, basing his remarks on Proverbs 31;10-29. Many beautiful flowers were placed around her by friends and relatives. Two songs, "In The Garden" and "He Leadeth Me" were sung by Mesdames Beatrice Lovell, Bertha Haydon and Catherind Johnson.
