Lily Pearl and her twin Bill were born on August 5, 1916, in Youngsport, Texas, to Dr. Edward and Flora Tanner. Lill and George raised a family of five kids, living most of their lives in Florence.
Possessed with a quick wit, ready laugh, warm smile, sparkling blue eyes and beautiful red hair, she was simply unforgettable. She lived a life of devotion to God and was a lifetime Baptist. Lill loved her family and she was the core around which it was built. Grandma's house was the center of our world, where we celebrated holidays and family events, and sought comfort in times of sorrow.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband George "Papa" Gower, son Bennie Gower of Florence, daughter Phyllis Gower Rutledge of Florence, and great-grandson Joshua Gower. Her parents, dear sister Aline Kellerman, twin brother Bill, and brothers Fred, Ed and Lorenz, all preceded her in death.
Her survivors include daughters Sue Gower Daniell Spencer and husband Forrest of Burnet, Lucretia Gower of Florence, son John L. Gower of Austin, daughter-in-law Sara Reavis Gower of Florence, niece Vicky Kellerman Cook of El Centro, California, grandchildren Jeff Daniell, Mitch Gower, and Jack Gower of Florence, Kim Daniell of Temple, Alise Gower Carrithers of Killeen, George Daniell of Lubbock, Carla Schaub of Lampasas, and Jennie Ruth Rodriguez of Fort Dix, New Jersey, ten great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and a host of friends.
Family visitation is Thursday, August 29, 6 to 8 PM and services are at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 30, both at the First Baptist Church in Florence. Burial follows at the Sharp Cemetery in Bell County, Texas.
Donations may be made to the Sharp Cemetery Association, 6900 S. Clear Creek Road, Killeen, Texas, 76549, or First Baptist Church of Florence, PO Box 9, Florence, Texas, 76527. You may share a message or memory in the memorial guestbook at www.RamseyFuneral.com
