Walter Azbill, formerly of Covelo, passed away on Tuesday October 13 one half hour after he was rushed to the hospital. Mr Azbill had been cutting wood near Carlotta and, while felling a tree, a large limb fell striking him on the shoulder and dislocating it. It also hit him on the head. He failed to return home by dark, so upon searching for him they found the badly injured man beside the tree. He was rushed to the hospital. Mr Azbill had just celebrated his 52nd birthday just the day before his death/ He is survived by his wife Nina who is a sister of Earl Caldwell, a former game warden of Covelo. He also leaves two brothers and two sisters; George of Covelo, Tide of Ukiah, Mrs Dora Brightenstine and Mrs Viola Rome of Covelo. The remains were laid to rest in Covelo Cemetery Thursday, October 15, with Rev. W J Wilson officiating. The flowers were beautiful and numerous. Honorary pall bearers were Senator G M Biggar, Archie N Moore, Clyde Riffe, George Ells and Lester (Leslie) Vann. Active pall bearers were Mervin and George Gravier, Lester Fitzhugh, Harvey Brightenstine, Russell Cummins, and John Brightenstine. Mrs Azbill plans to make her future home in Ukiah with Russell and Josie Cummins, Josie being a sister of Mrs Walter Azbill.
