William 's life is sketchy, but it is known that he received a good education. He loved to read and study and he was a beautiful penman. At age 17 he married the first time. She was a fine seamstress and he was an iron moulder. When he and his brother John joined the Church, they were given the choice of leaving the church or the family John left the church, but William , Mary , and their little girl, Mary , left for America .

After arriving in the Valley, they went on to Parowan with Mary and a baby that had been born 16 July 1855 . William was a farmer in Parowan and helped build some roads. He held several offices in the community and gave money to friends in Wales who wanted to come to the valley. He was active in the church all his life. He made many metal articles during his life. Light fixtures, keys, wedding rings, trivets, handles and locks.

In 1887 he was arrested for polygamy for which he spent six months in prison. He served another term later on. He died three years later. He was bishop of the ward from 1882 until his death in 1897 . It was said of him that he had the ideal polygamist family, full of love and unity.
