William Perkins was born on June 12, 1801, in Grayson, Virginia, the only child of Jabez and Nancy Ann. He married Peggy William Mckee Purkins and they had four children together between 1823 and 1831. He then married Rebeca Shepherd Perkins and they had seven children together between 1835 and 1850. He died in April 1859 in Williamsburg, Whitley County, Kentucky, at the age of 57, and was buried there.
