BUCHANNAN-Mr.Geo.Newton Buchannon died Monday morning Dec. 27th at his home on Forest Avenue after illness of only a few days duration.he was born feb.11,1847 in Newton County Georgia and was married to Miss Alice Harper in 1883.She was the daughter of the late Judge Harper of Greenville Alabama and died about 12 years ago.he has lived in Luverne about 30 years prior to his living in Luverne he was a well known businessman of troy Alabama.Mr.Buchannon served in the Civil War and was in the battle during the siege of Atlanta and at Lookout Mountain and was wounded in the battle of Resaca.he served in the state Senate from 1898-1904.Funeral services were held from the Baptist church Tuesday following at 3p.m. Rev.H.T. Strout officiating interment at Emmaus Cemetery .Mr. Buchannon was a cousin of the Sam P.Jones.he is survived by five daughters and one son. Mrs.W.L. Hicks of Midland City Ala.;Miss matte Buchannon of Tuscaloosa Ala; Mrs. J.G. (Annie)Gissendaner of Montgomery;Mrs.Lon (Lucy) Grace of Atlanta Ga.; Mrs.M.C. (Alice) Stripling of Tampa Fla. and Mrs.G.B.Buchannon of Montgomery .
