Oliver "Chris" Earl Christensen, 94 of Washington, died unexpectedly, Thursday, August 22, 2013.

He was born June 26, 1919, in Washington, Nebraska, the son of George Martin and Annie Mary Pate Christensen.

He served in the Coast Guard in WWII, as a Chief Gunner's Mate

Chris was a farmer retiring in 1989 and an over-the-road trucker for Owen-Illinois. He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 175, Elks, VFW, Arms Club and Independent Political Club.

On December 10, 1942 in St. Augustine, FL, he married Mary Eleanore Hazlett Christensen who died November 9, 1995.

Surviving are a son, James (Mary) Martin Christensen of Spring Lake Park, MN; a daughter, Renee (Lawrence) Mezza of Jamesville, NY; a sister, Ruby Chapman of Blair Nebraska; three grandchildren, Jill (Bryan) Christensen Downey of Denver CO, Michelle (Jesse) Blackhurst Leichty of Eighty Four, Kelly (Jeff) LaFrance; four great grandchildren, Emma, Blake, Chase and Drew Leichty.

Deceased are three brothers, Hank, William and Howard Christensen; two sisters, Mabel Nelson and Hazel Gregerson.

Friends will be received Tuesday, August 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held Wednesday, August 28 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can me made to the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175, 168 Park Ave, Washington, PA 15301.
