Younger sister of Saint Clare of Assisi, and thus daughter of Blessed Ortolana and Favarone degli Scifi. When her elder sisters, Clare and Agnes entered religious life, she found herself heiress to the whole family heritage, under the care of her powerful maternal uncle, Monaldo, and upon reaching the age of eighteen, her relatives wanted her to get married. Instead, she gave everything to the poor and joined her mother and sisters at the convent of San Damiano, where she led a life of prayer, mortification, fasting and other good deeds. Passing away in 1260, she was laid to rest in the church of Saint George, which would later be incorporated in the present Basilica of Saint Clare.
