Mrs M A Bandy Fatally Hurt
Woman Succumbs To Injuries Received When Hit By Automobile
Mrs. Matilda Anne Bandy died last night at 8:30 o'clock at the Pulaski hospital from a fractured skull received just two and one half hours before, when struck by an automobile driven by Frank E. Brown, Jr., of Roanoke.
The accident took place on the Lee highway and in front of the tenant home on the farm of T M. Painter, on Thornspring branch.
Mr. Brown immediately stopped his car and with the assistance of other travellers placed Mrs. Bandy In his automobile and with her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Robt. Bandy, brought her to the Pulaski hospital.
However, she had been fatally injured and never rallied.
Robert Bandy and his family, accompanied by his mother, had just returned in their car from a trip Pulaski. They stopped on the opposite side of the road from their home and all got out.
Mrs. Bandy, the mother, started across the road from behind their car when Mr. Brown, driving a Dodge coupe, came over the little knoll beyond the Bandy home. When he saw Mrs. Bandy in the road he applied the brakes and steered his car over toward the fence, having skidded car in his effort to avoid striking her.
His front cleared, but even her confusion she got too the passing machine and was life caught by the rear fender, knocked over down and rolled over several times, the force with which she was Struck the road fractured the skull.
There was no one at the scene of the accident at the time save Mr. Brown and the Robert Bandy family. However, it was only a few minutes until a Pennsylvania car drove up and gave assistance In getting the injured woman into the Brown car to bring her to the hospital. At the hospital Mr. Brown ordered everything possible for Mrs. Bandy.
The deceased was the wife of M. S. Bandy, with these children, Robert Bandy with whom she was staying; Mrs. Eula Simpkins, Snowsville; Mrs. Lola Linkous, Dublin; Mrs. Wurno, Clarence and J. R. Bandy, Pulaski.
She was a native of Montgomery Co and 60 years of age.
Funeral services will be held at Thornspring Cemetery Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock.
