Mrs. A. C. Herbold Died Monday at Her Home
Mrs. A. C. Herbold, 75, died Monday morning at her home northeast of Colfax in Sherman Township. She had been a resident on the same farm homestead for fifty two years and a life long resident of Jasper County.
Jennie C. Parker, the daughter of Charles and Mary Rider Parker, was born September 30, 1876, near Newton. She received her elementary education in the rural schools of the county. She began the study of music at an early age and later attended Iowa State Teachers college in Cedar Falls.
Prior to her marriage to A. C. Herbold in 1897 she taught in the rural schools for a time. Her entire married life was spent on the farm where they went to housekeeping.
She was a charter member of the Sand Hill Grange and a member of the First Methodist Church of Newton. She took an active part in the social and civic life of the community, ever interested in events concerning her home, children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, two sons E. O. Herbold of Colfax, and Alan Herbold of Newton, five grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Floy Parker of Pasadena, California. Her parents and one brother preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the First Methodist church at Newton with Rev. Allan K. Williams officiating.
Music was provided by Mrs. Maurice Rogers, soloist and D. E. Antle, organist. Mrs. Harry Selbher, Mrs. Henry Husson and Mrs. Leonard Davis were in charge of the flowers.
Pall bearers were Arthur Watt, Earl Pink, Harry Selbher, Henry Husson, James Leonard and C. W. Watt. Interment was in the Newton Union Cemetery.
