A PIONEER PASSES AWAY
Mrs. Celia R. VanCleave, 79 years of age, died at her home, 719 West Main street, Ottumwa, last Friday evening after an illness of several weeks. She was taken ill on May 5th and while everything possible was done to relieve her, she passed on to her home on High. For many years Mrs. VanCleave resided in Blakesburg and will be remembered by the older pioneers of this community. Her maiden name was Celia R. Raider and she was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana, December 22, 1845. She was united in marriage to Cyrus Van Cleave in 1863, who died twenty-four years ago. She is survived by three sons, William and Orie of Ottumwa, Newton Van Cleave of this city, and two daughters, Mrs. Carrie Zigler of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Miss Cora Van Cleave of Ottumwa. Funeral service was conducted by R. D. McClure at the family home in Ottumwa, after which the body was brought to this city and buried in the cemetery. Mrs. Van Cleave was a member of the Baptist church and was a good woman. A large concourse of sorrowing friends were present at the cemetery when the body arrived here. The Excelsior extends sympathy to the relatives.
