{excerpt from article} - He was adjutant general of Mississippi during the second gubernatorial administration of Theodore G. Bilbo, 1928-32. His military career began in 1910 when he became captain of a company of Gulfport infantrymen. He later became assistant adjutant general in charge of mobilization. He turned to private life after the World War until appointed adjutant general. Maj. Hairston served this district two terms as district attorney. He was United States deputy collector in this area at the time of his death. His wife, a son, and a daughter survive. Funeral arrangements were incomplete.
