Catherine Heisler, 86, of Devils Lake, ND and formerly of Esmond, ND, died August 18, 2002 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Catherine Axtman was born Jan. 6, 1916, near Balta, ND, to Martin and Walburga (Warren) Axtman. She was raised and educated near Balta. Following her education she helped her parents raise their family.

Catherine married John Heisler on Nov. 28, 1934, at Balta. The couple lived and farmed on the Heisler homestead in Esmond Township, southwest of Esmond. They retired in 1967 and moved into Esmond. Catherine worked for a time at Ann's Cafe in Esmond. Mr. Heisler died Nov. 30, 1984.
Catherine was a member of St. Bonafice Catholic Church, Ladies Aid and Christian Mothers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Donald Heisler; daughter, Elaine Erickson; grandson, Gregory Erickson; brothers, Peter, Mike, Wendolyn, Max, Walter and Freddie Axtman; and sisters, Mary Welk, Eva Axtman, Jenny Schwan, Gertrude Senger and Helen Schlief.
