DAVENPORT — Funeral services to celebrate the life of Wava J. Halligan, 77, a resident of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, in the All Faith Chapel at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., downtown Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. The family will greet friends 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Wava died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. She was surrounded by her loving family and passed following an extended illness and courageous battle with cancer.

Wava Jeanine Johannsen was born Aug. 29, 1935, in Scribner, Neb., a daughter of Fred and Villetta (Havekost) Johannsen. She was united in marriage to Melvin James "Hans" Halligan on July 5, 1952, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. Melvin preceded her in death on April 11, 2010.

She was employed by the federal government at the Rock Island Arsenal; she retired as a computer program analyst after 25 years of service.

Wava enjoyed doing craft work, including ceramics at the Friendly House, sewing, fishing and traveling. She and Hans were avid Iowa Hawkeye fans, and members of the I–Club. She loved her family and was very supportive of her children's and grandchildren's activities and sporting events.

Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial in her memory.

Those left to honor her memory include children and their spouses, JoDee and Duane Holdorf, Dixon, Iowa, Patrick and Jill Halligan, Blue Grass, Susan Halligan, Moline, Terry and Melaine Halligan, Davenport, Melinda (Geoffrey) Foster, Tempe, Ariz., and James and Lori Halligan, Davenport; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Ardyth Cary, Tempe, Dianne Hitchcock, Orange City, Fla., Larry (Wilma) Johannsen, Davenport, and Dennis Johannsen, New Windsor, Ill.; her in-laws, John Halligan, Davenport, and Rosemary (Don) Enoch, Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a daughter, Karen Woolison, a sister and brother-in-law, Ila Jean and George Morelock, and in-laws, Don Cary, Dwight Halligan and Patricia and Richard Kroeger.
