W.D. RIDLEY, PROMINENT PLANTER, DIES SUDDENLY WEDNESDAY MORNING

Mr. W.D. Ridley, 80, prominent citizen and planter, died suddenly at his home 8 miles west of town about 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. Mr. Ridley had suffered a bad heart for several years, but most of the time was active and for many years had been a successful farmer. He had arisen early Wednesday, ate breakfast, shaved himself and had walked out about his barn feeling better than usual. On his return to the house by way of his garden, in which he always took great pride, he fell dead beside the pathway. Mr. Ridley's home has ever been known as one of hospitality. He was never happier than when
entertaining his friends, of whom he had many. He was interested and active all his life in the progress of his community and county. The funeral was held at Quattlebaum's Funeral Home, Roanoke, Ala., Thursday at 2 p.m. when he was buried beside his first wife and daughter. Surviving are his widow and one son, Ales Ridley.
