Most likely he rests at an unmarked gravesite in Holmes County; however, this cemetery was chosen as a place for his burial memorial because his widow, the mother of his daughter, is buried here. Harmon Chavis was a native of Louisiana and a Confederate soldier. His birth & death dates are estimated. Somehow after the war he wound up in Holmes County Mississippi and married Margaret Ann Sproles, probably about 1867. Harmon died at age 24, leaving Margaret with a 13-month old daughter Theodorene. Margaret and her daughter, Theodorene, are listed in the 1870 census living next door to her parents Zacharia and Elizabeth Sproles.
