One thing we know for sure.... James Greer DIED, at some point in history... and in those times our Ancestors laid their families to REST on the land that the OWNED. Thus the Gunpowder River area, as it was where WE owned land.

This memorial was put together with DATA / or INFORMATION from several of our families BEST Researchers.
The LINKED "Parents" were Created by: Delbert Bauer-- Added: 23 Oct 2010
This is in question?????????????????????????????

Let us remember that it was 391 years ago that our forefather was born. Obviously he did not know of DNA and probably did not save any of his hair to be tested by his Descendants.

I have had some people tell me that there is some "misinformation here that is now floating around"

UNTIL we can find better SOURCES to add to this and other sites, like ancestry, rootsweb, wikipedia, wikitree and geni.com we will have to remember that not even BIRTH CERTIFICATES-DEATH CERTIFICATES- HEADSTONES- BIBLE PAGES are 100% ACCURATE EVERY TIME.
So please, enjoy what you read here, add it to what you have or NOT and get your dna test done if you are a male descendant who has a pure blood ALL MALE LINE from him. and then contact us to add it.
Thank you as always,
Carole

His actual age is unknown. Previous date of 1627 was taken from a man who we previously had linked as him, but records now prove he wasn't that man. He was likely at least 20 or older when he immigrated in 1674 and then married by 1680 likely in his 20's or older. Based on this I have put a birth year of "before 1654 ". This is only a estimated birth date and subject to change as more research is being done.

"6 Nov. 1674 a James Greer was sold to Samuel Gibbons, Master of the Batchelor of Bristol". This from a list of servants of Robt. Ridgely."
Then we see a
"James GREER was the HUSBAND of Ann Taylor, Arthur Taylor's daughter." 6 June 1687 this is according to the will of Arthur Taylor, Ann's father. Arthur gave James & Ann 75 acres of land.
This does not give the date they were actually married.
(THIS JAMES GREER WOULD HAVE BEEN 35 YEARS OLDER THAN ANN TAYLOR-but back in the day, it was done.)

"June 6, 1687. To all Christian people, to whom these presents shall come ... I, Arthur Taylor, of Gunpowder River, in Baltimore County, Maryland, Planter, for and in consideration of natural love and affection which I have and do bear unto James Grear and Ann, his wife, as also for divers and other good reasons and considerations and hereunto especially moving and do by these presents, give, grant, alein, enfoff their heirs and assigns, unto James Grear and Ann, his wife, their heirs and assigns forever, 75 acres of land, being part of a greater tract of 300 acres belonging to the said Arthur, and called, "Arthur's Choice", lying and being situated in Baltimore County, and on the south side of a branch of the Gunpowder River, called Bird Run, beginning at a red oak standing on the said river and running from said oak bounding with the ... run ... east-north-east 53 perches by a line into the woods for length 300 ... thence by a line down west-south-west from the end south-south-east ... east to line 53 perches ... Witness: Samuel Sickelman, Amos Thompson - Signed Arthur Taylor (his X mark)." (Hall of Records, Annapolis, Maryland, R. M. # H. S., Vol. 1, page 261.) This same land was held in trust for the "orphan of James Greer named John" until he reached age. Neither James Greer or his wife Ann left a will that has been located.

THIS copy from the Ralph Terry Family tree site but it is also found in the Hall of Records, Annapolis, Maryland.

James & Ann's only known child,
John was born the same year James died, 1688.

Siblings: Henry B: England mar. Mary Turner
son: also named James
apparently they did not come to America, but Henry went to Ireland and married. from the LINK to Delbert Bauer's works on find-a-grave.

March 2, 2015 this was just brought to my attention.

Note from Ralph Terry ... From the beginning of my research of the Greer family, in the 1980's, I have doubted the link between James Greer, our immigrant and Sir James Greer of Scotland. This assumption was based on the Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants (see below) and some early Greer researchers. More recent DNA evidence appears to indicate that our American branch of the Greer family does not match with the Greers and Griersons of Scotland.
At this time (2012) I am removing the link between our James Greer and Sir James Greer. I am leaving the Sir James Greer in my files, however, as it may help someone in the future.

"Because DNA evidence APPEARS to indicate that our American branch does not match the GREERS & GRIERSONS of Scotland".
I will leave the LINK to the John GREER/Mary Browne.
UNTIL someone can find the source PROOF to NAME the PARENTS,
OUR Ancestors. Please let me know.

And I have received an email saying that a Cuz's DNA test does MATCH her to the James GREER BORN:1627 Scotland and the John Greer/Sarah DAY-Greer.

NOTE: The place of burial is an assumption on us Descendants, that they did lay our ancestors to rest on their own property. Someday maybe someone will be able to get a Dowser over their and find where our peoples final resting place is.
