Helen S. Schulz, 84, of Sioux City, formerly of Merrill, Iowa passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with Reverend Gary Landsness of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Merrill, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com.

Helen S. Reusch was born June 7, 1929 in Cleghorn, Iowa to Elmer and Alice (Moses) Reusch. Helen attended high school in Marcus, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Leonard Schulz on February 5, 1947 in Merrill, Iowa. Helen worked for Aalf's Manufacturing in Le Mars for several years and later for Zenith Corporation in Sioux City. She also worked for Bohan's Upholstery and later established and operated Helen's Upholstery for over 20 years in Sioux City. Helen and Leonard enjoyed spending several winters in La Feria, Texas. Leonard passed away on February 15, 1998.

Helen was a longtime member of the Daughters of the Nile and enjoyed participating in many Shrine activities through the years. She and Leonard enjoyed belong to the Camper Unit of the Shrine.

Survivors include her two daughters: Kathy Sponder and her husband Larry of Le Mars and Connie Weenink and her husband Robert of Sioux City; 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren: Amy Schmidt and her husband Adam and their family Kynlee, Rylann, and Aynslee, Lindsey Schroeder and her husband Nathan and their family Slayton, Easton, and Sutton, Katie Burns and her husband Adam and daughter Kennisyn, Misty Broyhill and her husband Shaun and their son Chase, and Dustin Weenink and friend Angie Gengler; a sister, Charlene Hamrick and her husband Jack of Spencer, IA; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Warnock of Merrill, IA; a brother-in-law, Melvin Botsford of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Alice (Moses) Reusch; husband Leonard; 2 brothers, Albert and Ronald Reusch; 2 brothers-in-law, Wayne Warnock and Lester "Bud" Schulz and his wife Gladys, and a sister-in-law, Arlene Botsford.
