Kenneth Lamont Bean was born June 21, 1910 in New York City. After his father’s graduation from Columbia the family moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was a talented musician and played the violin and composed. He gave many recitals in Baton Rouge and New Orleans and continued to play the violin throughout his life.

He earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree at Louisiana State University before going to the University of Michigan for his PhD in psychology which he earned in 1938. He taught at Marshall College, Huntington, West Virginia in 1941 and at Bethany College in Bethany, West Virginia in 1942. While he was in Huntington he met Carol Jean MacArthur. They were married in Baton Rouge in 1942. Their first two children were born in Baton Rouge. He worked for the Louisiana Civil Service. In 1948 they moved to Waco, Texas where he taught at Baylor University. Their third child was born there in 1950.

In 1962 they moved to Knoxville, Iowa where he worked for the Veteran’s Administration. In 1966 the family returned to Texas where he worked at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Temple. He died April 26, 1989 in Temple, Texas
