Mr. Mathew Back, 80, a resident of the Dartmoore community near Belington, departed this life Wednesday evening, Oct. 22 in the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. Death was sudden and unexpected.
He was born July 19, 1928, in Haddonfield, N.J., a son of the late Mathew and Florence Moss Back.
On June 28, 1954, at Phoenixville, Pa., he was united in marriage to the former Helen Mae Miller who preceded him in death on June 19, 2003.
He is survived two sons, Robert M. "Bobbie" Back of Belington and Mathew Back and wife, Barbara, of Coatesville, Pa.; and one daughter, Patricia Arlene Delnero and husband, James, of Stowe, Pa. Ten grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren also survive.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Weaver; one sister, Mary Back; and one brother, Charles Back.
Mr. Back was a graduate of the Haddonfield High School in Haddonfield, N.J., and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Back was a former employee of the American Lacquer Works In Oaks, Pa., and was retired from the Devault Meat Packing Plant in Devault, Pa. He attended the Belington Church of the Nazarene in Belington.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25. Final rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Downing Gregory officiating. Interment will follow in the Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Junior. The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial contribution be given to the Belington Church of the Nazarene, 603 Hoff St. Belington, W.Va. 26250; or the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, Route 3 Box 15C, Belington, W.Va. 26250.
