Actor. Born in San Francisco, California, he was the actor-manager of Ye Liberty Playhouse in Oakland, before he moved to Glendale, California, in 1918, to take up a career in motion pictures. He made his movie debut in "The Pride of Redemption" (1920) and went on to appear in nearly a 100 films. His credits include "Battling Bunyan" (1925), "Hell Divers" (1931), "Call It Luck" (1934), "Thunder in the Night" (1935), "Lawless Valley" (1938), "Danger on Wheels" (1940) and "Citizen Kane" (1941). Film director George Stevens was his son and his brother Ashton Stevens, was a prominent drama critic in lead position on the Hearst Chicago Newspaper. He died at age 63 in Hollywood, California.
